Tourists Leave the Caribbean as a Hurricane Approaches
Listen here
Tourism is the largest industry in the Caribbean.
However, tourists will not be providing much money to the Caribbean economy this week as Hurricane Dean nears the islands.
Thousands of tourists fled the island of Jamaica before the hurricane arrived. Residents of Jamaica, meanwhile, looked for shelter in schools and churches.
Hurricane Dean has also caused severe damage to the Caribbean's second most important industry: bananas.
This year's banana harvest on the islands of St. Lucia and Martinique was ruined on Friday by flooding and fallen trees.
