Sarkozy Tries to Improve Relations with America

The relationship between the United States and France has not been very strong since the start of the war in Iraq.

The French government under Jacques Chirac was opposed to the war.

However, since the election of Nicolas Sarkozy in May, ties between the two countries have improved.

On Tuesday, Sarkozy began his first official visit to Washington with the hope of strengthening French-American relations.
