Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary became the first man to climb to the top of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953.

Hillary, who was a beekeeper from New Zealand, is considered to be one of the greatest adventurers of the 20th century.

He died on Thursday at age 88.
