Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic won the first gold medal of the 2008 Olympics in the women's 10-meter air rifle competition.

Katerina is married to American shooter Matt Emmons.

The pair met at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Matt had a chance to win a gold medal for the United States, but he shot at the wrong target.

Katerina went to console Matt after the competition. They fell in love and got married in 2007.
