Michael Phelps of the United States continued his quest to win eight gold medals at this year's Olympics.

Phelps won his third gold medal in Beijing today in the 200-meter men's freestyle swimming race.

Swimmer Mark Spitz, also an American, holds the record for the most gold medals at an Olympics. He brought home seven gold medals during the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
