Sir Paul McCartney is urging people to become vegetarians in order to stop global warming.

Animals which are raised for food are responsible for a large amount of greenhouse gases, the ex-Beatle wrote in a letter to The Independent newspaper.

McCartney has been a vegetarian and animal-rights activist for many years.
