Leon Greenman

Listen here

Leon Greenman was the only Englishman sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.

He was born in London, but was living with his Dutch wife and three-year-old son in the Netherlands in 1943.

Nazi forces occupied the country and sent the family to the camp.

Both his wife and son were killed there. Greenman survived and spent the rest of his life educating the public about Auschwitz. He wrote a book entitled "An Englishman in Auschwitz".

He died on Friday at age 97.
