A Swim Through Icy Waters

Listen here

Europe has been experiencing one of its coldest winters in recent years.

Nevertheless, freezing weather did not prevent Gyorgy Schirilla from carrying on a family tradition started by his father in 1957 – a winter swim across the Danube River.

Last Saturday, with temperatures falling to -10 degrees Celsius, Schirilla swam across the Danube in 15 minutes.

Schirilla, who is an advocate of healthy living, has said in the past that it takes months of training to swim in such cold conditions.

Words

advocate: someone who actively supports a cause.

Video of Schrilla’s swim has been posted on YouTube.
