On Sunday evening, city streets in the United States will be quiet as people stay home to watch Super Bowl, the championship of American football.

Yet the real reason so many people view the Super Bowl is not for the game but for the commercials.

Companies spend millions of dollars trying to create clever commercials that they hope viewers will remember long after they have forgotten the final score of the game.

The Duper Bowl

The Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the United States, is scheduled for this Sunday. It decides who will be the champion of American football.

Every year for the past 33 years, a group of friends in Atlanta, Georgia have been gathering for their own game called the Duper Bowl. The Duper Bowl takes place a few hours before the Super Bowl.

Unlike the Super Bowl, the Duper Bowl is friendly and not aggressive. After the game, the friends eat pizza, drink beer and watch the Super Bowl on television.

The term “super-duper” means excellent in English slang.

A Golf Tournament in North Korea

North Korea may not be the first place you think about when you think about golf.

Nevertheless, the country will host the second annual North Korean Amateur Open in May.

The event will take place at the Pyongyang Golf Complex, which has been called the “most exclusive” golf course in the world.

The price for entry is €1499.

A Hockey Fan Gets Too Close to the Game

It is not unusual these days to see ice hockey players fight during a match.

What is unusual, however, is to see a fan get involved in the action.

On December 29, during a match between Hungarian team Szekesfehervar and Salzburg in the European EBEL league, a fight broke out between players.

While they were fighting, a fan for the home team, Szekesfehervar, started hitting a Salzburg player on his helmet.

The Hungarian team will have to pay an 8000-euro fine for the fan’s behavior.

There is an old joke about a man who goes to a boxing match and a hockey game starts.

Aggressive behavior has always been a part of the sport. However, after a series of serious injuries to professional players, some are wondering if fighting in ice hockey should be stopped.

Others, though, think that fighting belongs in the game and that some fans watch games because of the violence.

Promotion and Relegation

Sports organizations in Europe use a system that promotes good teams to higher divisions and relegates poor teams to lower divisions.

For example, a team that finishes at the top of a division at the end of a season will move to a higher division the next season. Likewise, a team at the bottom of a division will be placed in a lower division the following year.

Some Asian sports leagues also use a system of promotion and relegation.

American sports, however, are fixed. The same teams play in each division every year.

The Seventh Hole at Satsuki

Until recently, the seventh hole at the Satsuki Golf Course in Sano, Japan was longest golf hole in the world.

It measured 964 yards — twice as long as the longest hole on an ordinary golf course.

A golf course in the American state of Michigan has beaten that record with a hole measuring 1,007 yards.

An American group is offering people who like to play baseball and to travel the chance to do both at the same time.

Baseball Adventures plans trips for adventurous baseball fans to London, Paris, Greece, China, Cuba and several other international destinations.

Trips consist of baseball games and sightseeing.

The introduction on Baseball Adventures Facebook page reads: “Play baseball, see the world.”
