Listen here

John Backus developed Fortran, one of the first computer programming languages, in the 1950s.

Fortran helped change the way in which people could communicate with computers. Before Fortran it was much more difficult to program a computer.

Backus worked most of his life for the IBM Corporation.

He passed away earlier this week at age 82.
