Language Tip: “One” Replacing a Noun

image grammarIn English we usually avoid repeating the same noun in a sentence by replacing it with a word “one” which is not the same as the number one (1), and therefore it can be used in plural as “ones”, too.

This is the best car we have in our shop and that one is the cheapest.

These are my toys and those ones are yours.

This one is nicer.

Which ones would you like?

I will take the red one.

We can also use “one” in general statements.

One never knows.

One should have breakfast everyday.
