Starting a Conversation
Why should anyone learn English if he or she does not converse in it?
We need to have conversations in order to use English or any other language.
One good way to have conversations with people is to be curious and ask them questions – in other words, pretend that you are a reporter.
For example, if you see someone walking a dog, you can ask that person about the dog. What is the dog’s name? How old is the dog? What food does the dog like?
Remember that good conversation, like everything else in life, requires practice.
to converse: to speak with other people, to have a conversation.
to pretend: to make believe.
