Starting on Friday, 10,708 athletes from 205 countries will gather in Beijing for the start of the 2008 Olympic Games.
The athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in 302 events in 28 different sports. The Olympics will last for 17 days.
More than a billion people around the world are expected to watch Friday’s opening ceremony from Beijing’s National Stadium on television.
