The Lame Duck President

Listen here

A lame duck in politics refers to an elected official whose successor has been chosen.

After the presidential election this month, George W. Bush became a lame duck president.

Because Bush has already served two terms as president, he cannot be re-elected.

Bush still has the power to make presidential decisions until January 20, when Barack Obama will move into the White House.

Words

successor: someone who follows/comes after another person (in a job). George W. Bush was the successor to Bill Clinton.
