Words Which Used to Be Common in English
Like all languages, English has gone through many changes.
For example, centuries ago English speakers would use thou for the informal form of the pronoun you.
Verbs for thou were also conjugated differently. Thou dost would be you do, thou hast would be you have.
Some Old English spellings are still in use today. Shops in England and Canada sometimes place the words “Ye Olde” in their names, as in Ye Olde Bowling Alley or Ye Olde Coffee Shop. Ye Olde means the old.
