Businessman Richard Branson has offered $25 million to any scientist who can find a solution to stopping global warming.

With former American Vice President Al Gore at his side, the British tycoon said that “the survival of our species” depended on improving the environment.

Branson is one of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom. He runs businesses in the entertainment, financial and transportation industries.

Mikhail Gorbachev, the former leader of the Soviet Union, has asked Microsoft founder Bill Gates to assist a Russian teacher.

Alexander Ponosov, a headmaster at a school in a small Russian village, may go to jail for using pirated versions of Microsoft’s software.

In a letter to Gates, Gorbachev said that a Russian teacher, who spends his life helping children learn and whose salary is much lower than that of an average worker at Microsoft, does not deserve to go to prison.

The violence started after two teenagers died when their motorbike hit a police car.

More than 70 police officers have been injured during the riots.

An Italian man has bought a Texas ghost town for $3.8 million on eBay, the Internet auction site.

The town, named Albert, has one house, a dance hall and
a bar that is open on weekends.

However, the town, which is 100 kilometers north of San Antonio, has no residents.

Ingredients

1 1/2 kilograms of potatoes (about 3.5 pounds)
200 grams of mildly spiced paprika sausage
10 eggs
a cup of sour cream

Instructions

Boil the potatoes and the eggs. Slice each so they are about a third of an inch thick. In a casserole dish, place a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom, then set a layer of eggs on top of them, then a layer of sausage. Coat with sour cream. Repeat this process until all the ingredients are used. Place in the oven at medium-high temperature for about 45 minutes to an hour.

(Note: some cooks place a layer of potatoes above the sausage — before coating the top with sour cream.)

A new study in the United States has found that echinacea may be good for colds.

Echinacea is a remedy that is made from purple coneflower.

The study, which was written in The Lancet, found that echinacea can reduce the chances of a person getting a cold by 58 percent.

This contradicts a study published in 2003 which said that echinacea does not help prevent colds.

People who live in London might see something familiar if they travel to China.

Geely Automobile Holdings, a Chinese company, plans to make up to 10,000 London-style taxicabs a year.

Last year Geely bought Manganese Bronze, a British company that made the cabs.

The first new cabs will appear in China next year. The cost of riding in a taxi will be about 50 percent less than it is in London.
