Saxophone Origins

Adolph Sax, who was born in the Belgian city of Dinant, invented the saxophone more than 160 years ago. In 1842, he moved to Paris where he had his saxophone patented in 1846.

It took almost 100 years for the instrument to become popular. The saxophone is especially used in jazz, a type of American music which is characterised by improvisation.
